Best Door County, WI Restaurants – Where To Eat

Looking for the best restaurants in Door County, WI? This little peninsula packs a big punch when it comes to food, making it a destination for any food lover. You could spend a whole week exploring cherry orchards and lakeside harbor towns and eating your way through independent, locally owned restaurants without ever eating at the same place twice (though some are so good, you’ll want to go back!).

I spent a week eating my way up and down the peninsula with my best friend, and this guide to the best places to eat in Door County covers our favorite restaurants, organized by town so you can plan your route. I've also included a short list of famous Door County restaurants we ran out of time for.

Quick Tips for Eating in Door County, WI

  • Make reservations for dinner. Popular sit-down spots fill up fast in peak season, so book ahead where you can.

  • Plan around the geography. Door County is a long, narrow peninsula. Sturgeon Bay is the gateway at the southern end, and Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek and Ellison Bay sit farther north.

  • Check seasonal hours. Many restaurants and food trucks shorten their hours or close in the off-season. Always check before you go.

  • Order the local stuff. Cheese curds, whitefish, cherries and a Friday night fish fry are all part of the experience.

Best Restaurants in Sister Bay, WI

Sister Bay is the heart of northern Door County and the easiest place to eat your way through a weekend. The town sits right on the shores of Green Bay, and between the bakeries, sandwich shops and gelato, you can walk from breakfast to dessert without getting back in the car. These are the best restaurants in Sister Bay, WI that we tried.

Cultured: Best Bakery in Sister Bay

If you only have time for one bakery stop in Door County, make it Cultured. This bakery and cafe in Sister Bay was named a 2026 James Beard Award finalist for Outstanding Bakery, and it's well known for its sourdough bagels. They're so good you'll be tossing your macro goals to the side. I ordered a breakfast sammy on an everything bagel paired with their cold brew latte, plus a miso chocolate chip cookie for later. Keep an eye out for their seasonal specials using fresh ingredients from local farms. Fun fact: in peak season, they bake up to 1,000 bagels a day!

Good to know: During our trip, their hours were limited to Friday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. We got there around 9 a.m., and the line already reached the door. By the time we left, it had spilled into the parking lot. IMO it is worth the wait.

Door County Creamery: Sandwiches in Sister Bay

Right in the heart of Sister Bay is Door County Creamery. We stopped for lunch and split two of their sandwiches - the BLT flatbread and the Turkey Brie, and had zero regrets about that decision. We didn't try it, but their Door County Creamery goat cheese gelato is a popular alternative to the region's famous custard. We did take a peek in the gelato display case and noted how good the small batches looked.

Good to know: There is no indoor dining area here; seating is limited to the outdoor patio, and sandwiches come in to-go containers.

Best Restaurants in Ephraim, WI

Ephraim is one of the most charming villages on the peninsula, and it happens to be just down the road from Peninsula State Park. That makes it a perfect place to refuel after a day outside. The Ephraim restaurants we tried ranged from a Polish counter-service spot to a farm dinner I’m still thinking about.

Prince of Pierogi: Pierogi in Ephraim

A pierogi in Door County? Absolutely. We ordered the classic potato and cheese, spinach and feta, and (obviously) cherry. Pierogies come six or nine to an order and are great for sharing. If you’re feeling adventurous, try other Polish classics like cabbage rolls, kielbasa and hunter’s stew. This is a great spot to visit after a day at Peninsula State Park, just down the street.

The story behind Prince of Pierogi is truly the American dream in action. Owner Krzysztof Krol first came to Door County from Poland in 2012 as a college student on a J-1 Work and Travel visa. In 2020, he opened the first Prince of Pierogi, now with a second location in Sturgeon Bay, and he hires students visiting on the same program.

Good to know: This is a counter-service spot with exclusively outdoor seating.

La Sirena: Farm-to-Table Dining in Ephraim

This was one of the highlights of our trip. During our visit, La Sirena hosted a special collaboration farm dinner at Hidden Acres Farm, and when we saw it as an option while booking our reservation, we knew we couldn’t pass it up. The dinner was a four-course meal prepared by La Sirena owner and chef Carlos Salgado and guest chef Jorge Guzman (three-time finalist for the James Beard Foundation's "Best Chef: Midwest" award). It featured traditional Yucatán-style Mexican dishes made with fresh, local ingredients — think whitefish escabeche.

If that dinner is any indication of the everyday experience at La Sirena, I can’t recommend it enough.

Good to know: The menu is a daily set prix fixe, reservations open on a rolling basis one month in advance. They also offer wonderful non-alcoholic drink pairings I haven't seen anywhere else.

  • Address: 9996 Pioneer Ln, Ephraim, WI 54211

  • Accepts Reservations: Yes

Best Restaurants in Ellison Bay, WI

Ellison Bay is a quieter corner of northern Door County, which makes it the place to slow down and settle in for a long dinner. If you’re driving back from the tip of the peninsula, this is a worthwhile stop.

Osteria Tre Tassi: Italian Restaurant in Ellison Bay

For a more intimate Italian meal in Door County, head to Osteria Tre Tassi in Ellison Bay. It’s set in an old farmhouse with a garden and outdoor terrace. I imagine it’s lovely in summer, but it was too cold for alfresco dining during our visit. The menu features a long list of daily specials, fresh house-made pasta, and ingredients from their own garden. I had a dish featuring the 24-hour ragu, it was rich and incredibly flavorful.

Good to know: You'll definitely want reservations, especially in peak season. Expect to pay about $60 per person for an entree and appetizer before beverages.

  • Accepts Reservations: Yes

Best Restaurants in Fish Creek, WI

Fish Creek is a popular home base for Door County visitors. The village is busy but walkable, and many of its restaurants have patios that are hard to resist on a nice day. Here’s where we stopped for lunch.

Hill Street: Fish Creek Restaurant

The day we were in Fish Creek was a perfectly crisp, early fall day — ideal for sitting on a patio. When we saw Hill Street's outdoor bar and patio, it was an easy choice. They serve a unique spin on classics like hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. At lunch, it was counter service. Order at the bar, and a runner brings your food to the table. The burger was tasty, big and a tad messy but I'd definitely order it again.

Good to know: They don't allow modifications to their menu, which could be a challenge for picky eaters.

Best Restaurants in Baileys Harbor, WI

Baileys Harbor has a laid-back, small-town feel, and the two spots we tried could not have been more different in vibes and menu. Both are worth a stop.

Inland Pizza: Pizza in Baileys Harbor

If you are a pizza lover, I highly recommend Inland Pizza in Baileys Harbor. They serve it on a sourdough crust, made fresh in-house. We opted for the soppressata pizza with a hot honey drizzle paired with the kale Caesar salad, and both totally hit the spot after a day of exploring. This is a great place for a casual dinner, especially if you're traveling with a group.

Good to know: They offer both indoor and outdoor dining options. Many of the tables are communal, so smaller groups may share with others.

  • Address: 8085 WI-57, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202

  • Accepts Reservations: No

AC Tap: Fried Cheese Curds in Baileys Harbor

If you're looking for a Midwestern roadhouse vibe, AC Tap will likely check that box for you. Don’t let the rough exterior fool you: they serve delicious food, and the place has a distinctly local dive-bar feel. Order the fried cheese curds, featuring Renard's artisan cheese — you're in Wisconsin, so this is basically a requirement. They come fresh out of the fryer, served with ranch for dipping. We also got an order of wings (and I noticed lots of other diners ordering them too), and they were saucy and delicious.

Good to know: This spot is cash only. They do have an ATM available on-site if needed.

  • Address: 9322 WI-57, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202

  • Accepts Reservations: No

Best Restaurants in Sturgeon Bay, WI

Sturgeon Bay is the gateway to Door County and the first big town you’ll reach when you cross onto the peninsula, so it’s a natural place to start or end your trip. It’s also home to a second location of Prince of Pierogi, if you missed it in Ephraim. Here's where we stopped for lunch.

Mauricio's: Sturgeon Bay Taco Truck

Mauricio’s taco truck is a great pick for a casual meal as you enter or leave the peninsula. I got the chicken quesadilla, and it was stuffed to the brim.

Good to know: This food truck takes cards and has outdoor tables overlooking Sturgeon Bay.

  • Accepts Reservations: No

More Door County Restaurants to Try: Fish Boil, Supper Clubs & Swedish Pancakes

We couldn't fit everything into one trip, so here's the shortlist of Door County classics that are already on the list for next time:

  • Wild Tomato (Sister Bay & Fish Creek): A popular pizza spot with two locations. The wait was over an hour when we stopped in and they don't take reservations, so we skipped it. They won a contest for best cheese curds in Door County in 2026, so this would be a perfect place to try them.

  • Door County fish boil at Pelletier’s Fish Boil: The fish boil is the Door County dinner tradition where they boil whitefish and potatoes over an open flame with a dramatic boil-over. Pelletier's has boil-overs on the hour from 5 p.m. until close. Call ahead to make a reservation.

  • Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant (Sister Bay): Famous for its Swedish pancakes, Swedish meatballs and the goats that graze on the restaurants sod roof. It's been a Sister Bay fixture since 1949.

  • Door County supper clubs: Nightingale Supper Club, in Sturgeon Bay, came highly recommended for a classic Wisconsin supper club night but there are several across the peninsula. If you go to one, be sure to order the Wisconsin classic: a brandy old fashioned. Most supper clubs offer hearty meals like steak, prime rib, and fish with a soup or salad course.

  • Anatolia Cuisine (Ephraim): Anatolia offers traditional Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine. Similar to Prince of Pierogi, their owner Mukhtar Aghazada first came to Door County on a J-1 visa in 2017.

  • Wilson's Restaurant (Ephraim): A family-friendly restaurant and ice cream parlor, open in Ephraim since 1906, Wilson's is a Door County landmark. The old-fashioned soda fountain is a traditional American eatery where guests can expect burgers, hot dogs and classic diner offerings alongside home-brewed draft root beer and ice cream.

Final Thoughts on Where to Eat in Door County

The two things I ask myself before picking my next destination are: what’s the food scene like, and what outdoor adventures can I enjoy? Door County easily answers both with a wide variety of options. I loved the chef-driven, farm-to-table restaurants as much as the local dives, and truly didn't have a bad meal my entire trip.
