Guide to the Best Restaurants in San Jose del Cabo
Flora Farms Garden
San Jose del Cabo has one of the best restaurant scenes in all of Baja California Sur. While Los Cabos as a whole is known for great dining, San Jose and Cabo San Lucas each have their own distinct personality — and both deliver in different ways. San Jose's food scene tends to be rooted in organic farms, local fishermen, and chefs who have built long-standing relationships with the land.
Many of the most celebrated restaurants here have earned Michelin recognition, which is remarkable for a destination of this size. Whether you're planning a special occasion dinner, hunting for the best tacos, or grazing on street food during the weekly art walk, the local food scene here celebrates authentic dishes, local culture, and incredible fresh seafood at every turn. Here's everything you need to know.

Farm to Table Dining in San Jose del Cabo

cocktail at Flora Farms
Flora's Field Kitchen at Flora Farms
💰 Price: $$$
🏆 Accolades: Michelin Bib Gourmand + Michelin Green Star MICHELIN Guide
📅 Reservations: Yes, strongly recommended
A beautiful farm oasis that almost feels like a secret garden with boho vibes perfectly aligned with the spirit of Baja California Sur. The bumpy dirt road to get there is part of the overall experience — stick with it, because what awaits is a 25-acre organic oasis nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Flora's Field Kitchen has been family-run since the late 90s and grows its own produce, raises chickens, runs an onsite butcher program, and bakes all its own bread. The menu rotates based on what's in season, but the pork chops are a permanent fixture (and personal favorite) and an absolute must-order. The portion sizes are generous so consider sharing the pork chop as a main, rounding it out with family-style sides and starters. We also loved the sweet potatoes, sea bass, and hibiscus margaritas. If you're feeling adventurous, go for the mezcal flight and don't skip the crickets. Beyond the restaurant, there are artisan shops, a farm bar, and cooking classes worth exploring if you have extra time. Plan to arrive early and take a farm tour before your meal, it was one of my favorite parts of the experience.
Acre
💰 Price: $$$$
🏆 Accolades: Michelin Green Star (2024) for commitment to sustainable cuisine
📅 Reservations: Yes, essential — note there is a $50/person cancellation fee within 48 hours
Part of the Acre Resort, this is the kind of place that earns a spot on your "special occasion" shortlist the moment you walk in. For us, it was a family meal and the only dinner reservation we made on that particular trip to Cabo. The open-air restaurant glows with candlelight after dark, with fans swirling overhead and lush tropical greenery surrounding every table. The menu leans into contemporary Mexican cooking with global influences — think beautifully plated dishes made from ingredients grown on the resort's own farm. Acre also produces its own award-winning mezcal, La Tierra del Acre, which finds its way into some exceptional cocktails. You might recognize the setting from its appearance on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to visit the on-site animal sanctuary — there are donkeys, rabbits, pygmy goats, and roaming peacocks, and it closes at 5pm.
Los Tamarindos
💰 Price: $$$
🏆 Accolades: None confirmed
📅 Reservations: Recommended
This one came recommended by a couple we met at the Flora Farms bar, and it's been on our list ever since. We haven't made it yet, but everything we've heard makes it one of our most anticipated meals on the next trip. The farm and restaurant sit on the grounds of a former 19th-century sugar cane plantation, and the hacienda-style setting is unlike anywhere else in Los Cabos. Owner and executive chef Enrique Silva has run this organic farm since 2003 — one of the first in the area — and his commitment to traditional Mexican cuisine shows in every dish. Much of what arrives at your table was grown or raised steps away: chickens and quail for eggs and meat, handmade pasta, and the catch of the day, caught by independent local fishermen and hand-selected by Chef Silva himself. For those who want a deeper dive into the farm-to-table experience, Tamarindos also offers cooking classes with a guided farm tour included.
Best Tacos in San Jose del Cabo
Las Guacamayas
Las Guacamayas
💰 Price: $
📅 Reservations: No (walk-in only)
We found out about this spot the best way possible — from a local who grew up here, a friend of ours that we originally met as a staff member at the resort we always stay on. We asked him for his real spot – not where he sends all of the other tourists. A no-frills taqueria with great vibes, Las Guacamayas is best known for its al pastor tacos, made the traditional way with a trompo right in plain sight — you can watch the chef shave the pork and pineapple before each serving. I had as many al pastor tacos as I could handle and my husband mixed it up with carne asada tacos. We both left full and happy. It's the kind of place where they serve you on a disposable plate and regardless of what you order it is perfectly paired with a bottle of Pacifico. Cash is your friend here, and so is arriving hungry. For context on price: you can eat extremely well for well under $15 a person, which makes it one of the best value meals in all of Los Cabos. There's also a sister location in Cabo San Lucas if you're staying on that side.
La Lupita Taco & Mezcal
💰 Price: $$
📅 Reservations: Yes, recommended for dinner (via WhatsApp)
If you walk into La Lupita expecting straightforward traditional Mexican food, you might be caught off guard — but in the best possible way. This spot has earned a cult following for its fusion "fancy tacos," as locals call them, and once you taste them it's easy to see why. I wanted to order the 'Taste of La Lupita' appetizer served with grasshoppers but didn't have any other takers in the group. Maybe next time? Plan to order 3–4 tacos per person — standouts for me included the Cheese Crust Pastor, Pibil Suckling Pig, and El Takeshi. There are also solid vegetarian options if anyone in your group doesn't eat meat. The restaurant is set in the heart of the Art District, and in the evenings live music kicks in and the whole place takes on a backyard party energy. Other diners were dancing between dishes. The mezcal list is extensive and worth exploring — ask your server for a recommendation if you're not sure where to start. Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner, and the easiest way to book is via WhatsApp.
Best Street Food in San Jose del Cabo
The Thursday evening art walk is reason enough to plan your trip around a Thursday in San Jose del Cabo. From around 5–9pm, the galleries in the historic Art District open their doors, local artisans set up along the streets, and Plaza Mijares transforms into the social heart of the city. It's completely free, charming, and happens to be the best time to visit these two street food carts, both set up right in the historic center. This is regularly the most memorable evening of our trip. Bring cash — vendors accept US dollars but expect change back in pesos.
Doña Nina
Doña Nina Tamales
💰 Price: $
📅 Reservations: No (walk-up, cash only)
You'll find Dona Nina's cart on Plaza Mijares during the weekly Thursday art walk, and the line tells you everything you need to know. It's a must for us on every trip to Cabo. My personal favorites are the chicken verde tamale and the pineapple dessert empanadas, which are worth saving room for. Cash is preferred, and while US dollars are accepted, expect change back in pesos. Typically, the cart opens around 5 p.m. So, if you see it sitting empty earlier in the day, don't worry and remember to circle back in the evening.
Churreria San José
Churreria San José
💰 Price: $
📅 Reservations: No (walk-up, cash only)
Also on Plaza Mijares during the Thursday art walk, and arguably the most dangerous cart for anyone with a sweet tooth. The dough is cut and fried fresh on-site before getting dusted in cinnamon sugar, toppings like caramel and chocolate drizzle are also available. These are perhaps the freshest churros I've ever had. They are light and airy but with a distinct crunch — different from any churro I've had stateside which are usually more dense. The smell alone is enough to pull you in from across the plaza. Same cash situation as Dona Nina — bring pesos or small bills in USD.

Los Tres Gallos
💰 Price: $$$
🏆 Accolades: Listed in the Michelin Guide
📅 Reservations: Recommended
Serving traditional Mexican food in a beautiful open-air room, Los Tres Gallos is the kind of place that makes you want to linger long after the plates are cleared — papel picado flags overhead, warm lighting, and an energy that feels quintessentially San Jose. All the recipes here are rooted in old family traditions — the kind passed down from moms and grandmas over generations. Standouts from reviewers include the tortilla soup, the enchiladas verdes, and the mole dishes. Thursday evenings during the art walk are a particularly great time to visit, when the surrounding streets are buzzing, but be sure to make a reservation. There's a sister location in Cabo San Lucas if you can't make it to the San Jose outpost.
Claro Fish Junior
💰 Price: $
🏆 Accolades: None found
📅 Reservations: No (walk-in)
We haven't made it to Claro Fish Jr yet, but it keeps coming up in conversations with locals and other travelers as the go-to spot for no-fuss fresh seafood — so it earned a spot on this list and our itinerary for next time. The open-air setup is casual and the menu is straightforward: Baja-style fish tacos and ceviche are the stars, with a taco condiment cart in the middle of the dining room so you can customize to your liking — pile on the slaw, pickled onions, and salsas. By all accounts one of the best value seafood spots in the area. Worth noting: the location near the estuary is popular but can get buggy in the evenings, so plan accordingly.
Ruba's Bakery
💰 Price: $$
🏆 Accolades: Michelin Guide recommended — Inspector's Favorite MICHELIN Guide
📅 Reservations: Available (OpenTable)
I haven't made it here yet, but it's already at the top of my list for our next trip — and the more I research it, the more I wish I'd gone sooner. Ruba's is housed in a restored 1940s casita in the Art District, with umbrella-shaded tables out front and a comfortable courtyard in back. Michelin inspectors named it an Inspector's Favorite, drawn in by its restored casita setting in the heart of the Art District. The focus is on sourdough and artisan bread baked daily, with a menu that runs from coffee and pastries in the morning through wood-fired pizzas and sharing plates at dinner. The chilaquiles — available Friday through Sunday at brunch — come highly recommended, served in a skillet with crispy corn tortilla chips in a morita chile sauce. Expect a wait on busy mornings; regulars say it's worth every minute.
FAQs
Can I pay with credit card?
Most established restaurants in San Jose del Cabo accept credit card payments. When given the option to use the restaurant's exchange rate, always decline — your bank will calculate the exchange during processing, and the rate is almost always more favorable than the restaurant's credit card processor.
Are any of these restaurants in Cabo San Lucas?
Many popular restaurants in the centro of San Jose del Cabo have sister locations in Cabo San Lucas, including Las Guacamayas, La Lupita, Los Tres Gallos, and more. The experiences are similar, though not exactly the same.
Are there any craft breweries in San Jose del Cabo?
Yes! Baja Brewing Company in downtown San Jose del Cabo — one of the best things to discover if you're a beer lover — offers locally brewed beers. My husband loves the Lager and my father-in-law swears by the Pelirroja Amber Ale, both award-winning brews.
Are there San Jose del Cabo restaurants with vegan options?
Absolutely. These restaurants from my recommendations are known to offer vegan selections: Acre, Flora Farms, and La Lupita Taco & Mezcal.
Do I need a car to visit the farm-to-table restaurants?
Not necessarily. The farm-to-table restaurants — Flora Farms, Acre, and Los Tamarindos — are located on the other side of the estuary from San Jose's centro district and aren't walkable from downtown. That said, rideshares will happily drop you off and pick you up from all three, so there's no need to rent a car specifically for these visits. Just be aware that the final stretch of road to both Flora Farms and Acre is unpaved and bumpy — totally manageable, and honestly part of the adventure.
When is the best time to visit for the Thursday art walk?
The art walk runs every Thursday evening from around 5–9pm in the heart of San Jose del Cabo's historic Art District. It's one of the best free experiences in Los Cabos — galleries open their doors, street vendors set up, and the whole neighborhood comes alive. It's also the best night to visit Dona Nina Tamales and Churreria San José on Plaza Mijares. Arrive by 5:30pm to beat the crowds at the street carts.
